Hi everyone! Today we celebrate our 4th anniversary. For years of stories, random news, thousands of comments and emails, a few trips and an annual dinner. Thank you all for coming along on this journey to who knows were!
In other news, the University of Arizona has come up with this beutiful celebration of car culture and fear mongering:
Drive-Through Clinic for Employees and Students:
Get your flu shot without leaving your car by participating in a
drive-through flu shot clinic being held by the Campus Health Service in
collaboration with other UA departments on Saturday, Oct. 3, from 9 a.m. to
noon. To get to the clinic area, head east on Second Street from Park
Avenue. Because this is a drive-through clinic, you’ll stay in your vehicle
from start to finish. And if you’re one of the first 200 participants,
you’ll get a free flu prevention kit

Muy buenas a todos y felicidades por estos cuatro años de comentarios, críticas, anécdotas y esas miles de preguntas que llegan a nuestro email cada día. Hoy celebramos 4 años del nacimiento de esta criatura que sigue tomando forma cada día sin nunca saber hacia donde nos llevará.
Un par de noticias para la ocasión:
Matarías a Obama en FaceBook? Al parecer salió una encuesta que preguntaba a los asociados a dicha red que si estarían dispuestos a asesinar al presidente de EE.UU. Automáticamente sabéis lo que paso, no? la noticia de El País aquí.
Por otro lado en la Universidad de Arizona están promoviendo una campaña para vacunarse contra la gripe del pollo, a no, la del cerdo. Pero en este país no podría ser de otra manera así que te dejan que te vacunes desde el coche, como si fuera un McAuto cualquiera. Cito directamente del mail que me mandan desde la oficina central de información de los alumnos:

Bueno, yo creo que puedo decir sin miedo a equivocarme que Muse y Placebo están en mi top 5. Aunque el vídeo que colganmos ayer fuera un poco de mofa, no deja de ser un temazo el que han lazado los chicos de Muse. El álbum tampoco tiene mala pinta, pero tampoco lo he escuchado mucho. Lo que sí os puedo decir es que el directo de Muse es lo mejor que hay por ahí. Se me piró y no he conseguido entradas para esta gira, y me jode sobremanera. A quien sí veremos es a Placebo, en Rotterdam. Ya les vimos en el Rock Werchter este verano, deplegando toda su clase. Os dejó aquí un vídeo del tema que abre su último disco y también algunos directos, kitty litter.
Para enlazar con el último comentario de Cachi referente a los Gallager: no podría estar más de acuerdo. Los de Muse son un grupo de puta madre que lo da todo en directo, por eso no hacen playback. Oasis a veces se lo curraba. Otras veces no. Y en cuanto a Liam, que tanto va de Rock&Roll star, el probe no se pispa de que ya huele. Brian Molko sí es una estrella del rock; él sólo es un paleto de Manchester venido a más.
Muse and Placebo are among my top5 groups, no doubt about that. Even as the previous video we posted was just for a laugh, you can still hear in it Muse’s new and powerful single. The album also sounds great, but I haven’t really had a chance to listen to it carefully yet. It’s a pitty I’ll miss them live, beacuse they put out a good show. We will see Placebo perform in Rotterdam. Here’s a video from a recent concert, to star the weekend in the right mood.
BTW, Cachi said in a comment to the previous post that the lads from Muse were much cooler than the Gallaghers. I can only agree, and they always give their best when they play live. Oasis just tries harder sometime, but in many other they can’t be bothered. And a really hate Liam’s Rock Star attitude. Brian Molko is a real Rock Star. Liam is just a poor bastard from Masnchester who was in the right place at the right time.
Resulta que los chiquitos de Muse fueron a un programa italiano a hacer un poquito de promo de su último disco. Allí les informaron que tocar en directo era mucho follón, que hicieran playback. Y ahí tenéis el resultado, todos se cambiaron los instrumentos y vacilaron a la presentadora.
Una verdadera lástima, porque esta gente tiene uno de los mejores directos que he visto en mi vida. El vídeo aún así no tiene desperdicio
Muse doesn’t do playback
The lads from Muse are doing some promotion around for they’re latest album. Apparently they were told in some Italian TV show that they had to do playback. And they did, but switching instruments.
A real shame, because Muse has one of the best live acts I remember. Funny video though.
Locker es el nombre de una serie de aparcamientos subterráneos para bicis (o cletas como las llamas mis amigos chilenos) que hay aquí en Ámsterdam. Es uno de los aspectos de la insfraestructura ciclista que menos visibilidad tienen para el visitante, pero uno de los que más me gustan y que más me ha llamado la atención. Como tantas cosas en este país, es fruto del sentido común: hacen falta más plazas de aparcamiento y que sean más seguras, así que hacemos un aparcamiento subterráneo. Además, le ponemos un taller de bicis y algún servicio de prestamo de bicis para hacerlo económicamente sostenible, y una parte de los empleados pertencen a colectivos con problemas de integración laboral, para que socialmente también sea beneficioso. En realidad, con lo que el Estado se ahorra en gasto sanitario y de mantenimiento de carreteras cuando sube el número de gente que deja el coche por la bici, se sostiene el sistema. Y si lo necesitas, te arreglan la bici mientras vas y vienes del curro en tren.
Resultado, cuando llueve mucho o cuando voy al aeropuerto porque me voy de viaje, puedo dejar la bici aparcada con seguridad y bajo techo en la estación de tren. Pero también cuando salimos de fiesta por el centro, porque hay uno debajo de Paradiso, la famosa discoteca de Ámsterdam, o cuando vamos al cine.
Un gran invento que además, es gratuito. Vas con tu bici, te dan un ticket, la atas, ¡y ya está! mi colega Marc, de Amsterdamize, ha hecho un vídeo en el que explica gráficamente cómo funciona, os lo dejo aquí.
One of my favourite bits of bicycle infrastructure in Amsterdam, and one that usually goes unnoticed to the tourists, is the underground parking facilities. As so many other things here in The Netherlands, it is the result of common sense: there’s a need for more bicycle parking spaces, and also for safer ones, so we make them underground. Then we add a bicycle repair shop and some bicycle renting to make it convenient and economically viable, and we also make it a place of work integration to make it socially profitable -beyond the obvious benefits of increased cycling.
So when there’s a heavy storm, or I’m leaving town for a few days from the airport, I can lock my bike at the train station and pick it up, safe and dry, on the way back. Also when we go out -there’s a 24/7 facility under Paradiso, a popular club- or when we go to the cinema, we can lock our bikes in a Locker and forget about them until we want to go back home.

In line with our previous debate about Russian Red, a Spanish song writer who makes relaxed POP with melancholic folk touches, we are going to talk about Gerogia Fields. You might remember her from previous posts, but in case you don’t, she is an Australian singer with a lovely voice. You’ll like her music if you like Feist or the aforementioned Russian Red. Her music also reminds me of Cocorosie and Belle&Sebastian.
