Nuestro amigos de Fixed Gear Chile organizan esta Alley Cat en Santiago, no creo que podamos pasarnos, aunque nos gustaría!
Our mates from Fixed Gear Chile are organising an Alley Cat in Santiago. We won’t be able to race with them, but we wish we could!
There is no way to read El Quixote at midnight so I start looking for doing something to procrastinate and indeed, what could that be besides bikes? This is what after 7 months, crossing one ocean and half continent, many parts on ebay, some other at Decathlon and several changes due to unspected inconveniences… it became true last week. This is my first ride with it and the first trackstand. Music is thanks to Titolón that always share hot stuff.
La noche no está para ponerse a leer El Quijote así que me he buscado una excusa y no podía ser de otra manera, bicis. Aquí está lo que después de casi 7 meses, cruzarse un océano y medio continente, algunas partes de ebay, otras del Decathlon de Alcalá y varios cambios improvisados sobre la marcha es la nueva Britpopbike2010 :D Esta es la primera vez que monté en ella en su versión final y también el primer <trackstand> La música es por parte de Titolón que siempre se pasa los buenos temas.
Last Friday I meet a guy in Phoenix that was on a bike trip. Brian came all the way from San Diego to Phoenix on his bike and I catch him right on the Jack In the Box. Brian told me that he was on an average 60 miles a day and that he needed to improve that to rise to 80 now that the weather is not too bad. He made a nice park outside, don’t you think?
I told him we are about to do something similar in Europe, Amsterdam-London, on a fixie and guess what was his question…Why on fixie dude? And that’s right, why on fixie. Anyhow he was curious about that and he might come to bike Europe sometime.

El otro día en Phoenix me encontré con un tipo que estaba haciendo un bike trip. Brian llevaba dando pedales desde San Diego hasta Phoenix a una media de unas 60 millas al día y me dijo que quería mejorar esa media y llegar hasta al menos las 80, ya que ahora es la mejor época y no hace un calor infernal.
Le dije que nosotros queríamos hacer este verano algo parecido, un bike trip entre Amsterdam y Londres, a piñón fijo y claro la pregunta que me hizo es ¿por qué a pión fijo? Y claro, tiene razón, ¿por qué? Bueno, de todas maneras me dijo que sí que le interesaba ir algún día a Europa para hacer algo así.

Entre el 9 y el 16 de abril, un grupo apasionados del piñón fijo recorrerán el camino que separa Amsterdam de París, incluyendo el recorrido de la mítica París – Roubaix a la inversa. Por el camino, además de luchar con los famosos caminos adoquinados, y el reto de hacer este viaje con bicicletas de velódromo, disfrutarán de la gastronomía local, conocerán a un ciclista que compitió el año anterior con una bici de piñón fijo y hasta jugarán al bici-polo. Les acompañará un equipo de grabación para recoger todo y producir un documental
Como anécdota, contaros que Vlema, Germán, Rubenest y yo estuvimos hablando de hacer esta misma ruta hace unos meses. Es, sin dudad, un gran viaje. Más info en el blog:

From April 9th untill April 16th a group of “young” fixed gear riders will ride their bikes from Amsterdam to Paris and make a stop at the finish of the famous Paris – Roubaix race. During this 7 day trip, they’ll session street spots along the way, play some polo, cheer for the finishing racers in Roubaix, torture their bikes on the coblestones, taste the local culture (beer or wine) and try to have as much fun as possible!
Vlema, Rubenest, Germán & myself actually discussed doing this same route last year! it is a great plan, and I really look forward to watching the documentary they’ll produce afterwards.

La primera alleycat de Alcalá se quedó helada. La Nevada que caída la noche anterior hacía el asfalto impracticable, y la lluvia helada que hubo todo día quitaba las ganas de casi todo. Así que nos presentamos tres valientes (Rubenest, Victor y servidor) y decidimos darnos una vuelta. Fuimos a casa de un colega a arreglarle su bici, pedaleamos un rato más y al final ya sabéis: a los bares.
Una lástima, pero habrá más ediciones!
Snow, ice and constant rain were more that enough to put anyone off for racing a wee bit in the traffic. So the three heroes that turned up for the first Alleycat in Alcalá decided to go for a ride, to help a friend fix his bike and, finally, to enjoy some beers.
There will be a second edition, no worries.
Presentamos la primera AlleyCat de Alcalá, e invitamos a todo el que quiera pasárselo bien a venir.
Como no sabemos cuánta gente participará en esta primera edición, lo vamos a hacer muy sencillito: sólo hay que estar con la bici, a las 19:30, el lunes 21 delante de la universidad antigua.
Hay que llevar 3€ y una cámara de fotos con la memoria vacía.
Los 3€ se destinan a sufragar el premio, una tarjeta que se da a cada participante y unas birras (Que como bien apuntaban por ahí, serán Mahou, espero!).
We are back in Alcalá for Xmas, and ready to be silly and loud and whatnot. Amongst other amenities, we’ll organise Alcalá’s first AlleyCat race. Let’s see how that goes :)
