Last week we went down to Madrid for the monthly Critical Mass ride.
We took our bikes on the train from Azuqueca and got to the Cibeles in time for the grand start! I met some riders from previous rides, and after cathing up we discussed how the fixed scene seems to be growing in Madrid.
It was a 24 Km ride with some 1000 riders (!!!!!!!!!!), quite a feat for Madrid in the summer.
I left the newcomers in the front of the group and went to look for Lema and Germán. They had some colourful hats from went they went to see the Tour a few weeks ago.
Half way through the ride we stopped for some beer. Us and another 300 riders. They guy in the corner shop kept an eye on us when we where paying, but his other eye was looking all over the store to make sure no one got away with some free beer! After that more riding and singing.
Germán went trhough the 24Ks on his new fixed Wheel bike, non stop sipinning, while Lema followed chased in his super cool vintage 70’s bikes. Both stylish in their own right.
After that, and a wee argument with an very nervous driver (this is, after all, still Madrid), we made it on time for the night bus. Bikes on the luggage compartement and a little nap on the way back to Alcalá.
